The Origin Story- The Birth of Magick Mixes

It’s Fine, It’s All Fine — that’s been my life motto ever since everything changed. A little sarcastic, a little rebellious, and just grounded enough to keep me moving forward when it felt like everything around me was falling apart.

A few years ago, my life came crashing down in the kind of way that forces you to stop, take a hard look at everything, and decide whether you’re going to stay down or get back up swinging. Spoiler: I chose swinging. And from that chaos came the words I’d mutter to myself (sometimes through gritted teeth): It’s fine. It’s all fine.

I didn’t have a plan. I didn’t have a tidy roadmap or a polished business model. What I had was exhaustion, stubbornness, and a deep need to take care of my family in a way that actually helped. That’s when I turned to herbs.

It started small — a salve here, a tincture there. Just me in my kitchen, experimenting with plants and hoping for something better than the endless cycle of quick fixes we’d been handed. But here’s the part I didn’t expect: while those herbal remedies were helping my family, they were also healing me.

Working with herbs gave me something solid to hold onto during a time when everything else felt like it was slipping through my fingers. Every jar I mixed, every batch I poured, was a reminder that I could create something good out of the mess. Slowly, that work turned into more than kitchen experiments. It became Magick Mixes — my heart business, rooted in both care and rebellion. Care, because I wanted to help others find natural ways to heal; rebellion, because I refused to accept that “good enough” was all we could hope for.

Over time, Magick Mixes became more than just jars of remedies — it became a way to educate. I realized how much I loved sharing what I was learning about plants, bodies, and holistic care. Customers didn’t just walk away with a salve or a tea; they left with knowledge, with confidence, with a reminder that they could take part in their own healing too.

That’s what Magick Mixes does for people: it puts some of the power back in their hands. It helps someone soothe an ache without a cabinet full of chemicals, or feel grounded with a ritual as simple as brewing a cup of tea. And on a community level, it sparks conversations, curiosity, and connection — because once you start talking herbs, stories always follow.

For me, Magick Mixes has always been more than business. It’s been a classroom, a kitchen table, and sometimes even a lifeline. It keeps me learning, experimenting, and growing alongside the people who support it.

This is where my journey really began. Not with a business plan or a shiny logo, but with a breakdown that turned into a breakthrough — and a little jar of salve that carried more hope than I realized at the time.

And, as I’d soon learn, Magick Mixes was just the beginning. Because once I stepped into the world of small business, I started noticing the struggles other makers were facing too — and that’s where the next part of this story begins, with a community project…

(More to come... someday.)
